Suicide Silence have got themselves an iPhone App (download it here). We've had a play with it and it's pretty cool, both if you're already a fan of the band OR looking for something new in metal.

It's free so there's no excuse to download it and have a play ... then if you like what you hear, grab yourself a pair of tickets for the show on 27th Nov (which sees them play with As I Lay Dying, Rise to Remain and Heaven Shall Burn)

Speaking of iPhone apps, another one here for Motorhead fans - but we warned this one comes with a pretty steep £5.99 price tag. It lets you remix all the various elements of Motorhead songs if you fancied it. You can download the app here.

Wolverhampton Christmas Light Switch-On

24/11 – 5.00pm – 6.30pm, Queen Square.

Beacon Radio play host to Wolverhampton’s light switch-on as Father Christmas rolls into town accompanied by a real Reindeer Parade, panto stars and children of the Punch Theatre Company.

At 6.30pm the sky will be set aglow with a dazzling firework display launched from a city centre rooftop, while The Mayor of Wolverhampton, Peppa Pig and panto star Christopher Biggins will help Santa Claus to switch on the lights.

Tettenhall Christmas Light Switch-On

26/11 5.00pm - 6.30pm

Wolf Radio play host as the lights are switched on by The Mayor of Wolverhampton in Tettenhall on the Green.

Bilston Christmas Light Switch-On

27/11 - 3.00pm - 4.30pm

The lights will be switched on in Bilston with Wolf Radio on hand to entertain the crowds.

The Counterfeit Stones will play some songs and help to flick the switch, while the Orpheus Male Voice Choir will sing, and an American Style marching band and Bilston Army Cadets will march through the town.

Wednesfield Light Switch-On

Wednesfield town’s Christmas lights are illuminated by The Mayor of Wolverhampton and Apprentice star Ruth Badger with Wolf Radio’s roadshow in attendance.

Please note that on Wednesday 24th November, Wolverhampton will be switching on it’s Christmas Lights in Queen Square!

There will be some temporary road closures between 4.30pm and 7.30pm, affected bus routes are 126, 255, 256, 501, 504, 505, 506, 507, 507A, 510, 512, 513, 525, 535, 543 & 614.

Stops on Lichfield Street, Darlington Street, Waterloo Road outbound, Victoria Street and Skinner Street will not be served during this closure.

Reef have announced the main support act for their UK tour. They'll be bringing YOUNG AVIATORS with them to the Wulfrun Hall on 3rd December. They've been described as “the sound of a bank robbery in progress” - check them out there http://www.myspace.com/youngaviators. Comedian Mark Watson's been doing all kinds of things for Kindness Day (no, we hadn't heard of it either). These acts of kindness involved tipping a barista in a coffee shop, messaging his mates on Twitter and giving money to a poppy appeal, even tho he already had a poppy. He also gave away tickets to his upcoming UK tour to the best sob story. Now THAT'S kindness. Catch him at The Wulfrun Hall on 1st December.

Arch Enemy are bravely opening themselves up to fan questions, as they head out on their UK tour. Head to The Gauntlet for more details ... . Great news for fans of Devildriver ...the band have announced details of their next album.

The band, who are currently on tour with 36 Crazyfists, and hit the Wolverhampton Wulfrun Hall tomorrow (tickets here) will put out their next full length release on 21st Feb 2011

Called Beast, it will be produced by Mark Lewis (All That Remains, Trivium, The Black Dahlia Murder) and has been slugged their "extreme" to date by frontman Dez Fafara comparing it to ‘Beast’ to “driving a Buick Skylark 200 miles an hour straight to Vegas.”

The BIG news is that the FINAL is going to be held in The Civic Hall, instead of the Wulfrun Hall so the final bands get the chance to have a real taste of the big time! Imagine, playing on that legendary stage!

We love it when a musician in one of out favourite bands goes off to try something else. This is the case with Steve Hewitt - one time drummer of Placebo, who is now with a new band called Love Amongst Ruin. Check out the videos and FREE music download below.

You can spot elements of Placebo in their music, but there is also a heathy dose of Queens of the Stone Age. Linkin Park and Foo Fighters

Frightened Rabbit are an indie rock outfit from Selkirk in Scotland (now based in Glasgow). They formed in 2003 and since then have released 3 studio albums, Sing the Greys, The Midnight Organ Fight and The Winter of Mixed Drinks (which was released this year)

The band's made up of Scott Hutchison (lead vocals, rhythym guitar, lyricist), Grant Hutchison (drums), Billy Kennedy (bass and guitar), Andy Monaghan (guitar) and Gordon Skene (keyboards)

The band have supported Death Cab for Cutie, played on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, featured on several TV show soundtracks, and were handpicked by Belle and Sebastian to play the Bowlie Weekender festival in 2010. The Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster are an odd band. They have their uber-dedicated followers, but have, criminally, always missed out on superstar status.

This is down to the fact that they've always been under the psychobilly umbrella, but a more fair description, is probably quirky rock.However, this band are definitely worth checking out. They recently headlined the 3rd stage at the Sonisphere Festival and put on, as usual, an amazing show. They are playing The Slade Rooms on Saturday 30th Oct! Channelling a a whole lotta Springsteen, Gaslight Anthem burst onto the scene last year with their second album, and the epic track '59 Sound (video below)

The timing was perfect, and they helped forge a whole new wave of folk rock sounds. Having the blessing of The Boss, and appearing with him during his headline slot at Glastonbury hasn't done them any harm at all.

Always picking up fierce live reviews, get involved and do NO miss out on one of the most exciting bands of recent years!!!

For the past few months we've been running something called the #830question. It's a general music question, whether its coming up with song suggestions, your thoughts on favourite musicians, etc - which we send out to Facebook and Twitter at 8.30am every day

A lot of you love it, and we've been having tonnes of fun.

In fact it was so popular that we decided to send the same question out again at 8.30pm in case people were missing it in the morning and might like to get involved.

So far, it's been a success with some new faces getting involved, which is great! However, I also know that some of you more regular Facebook users are seeing the same question appearing twice in your feed.

So, you decide - we'll keep running the evening question as well as the morning question for another week, but you can have your say on it via this little poll! We'd love your thoughts ...

KoRn - nu-metal gods return to Wolverhampton TOMORROW

It's hard to imagine a time without Korn! One of the first, if not THE first, nu-metal band - a genre that gave metal a well overdue kick in the behind in the 90's - they are often credited with sparking an entire rethink of that type of music.

They've had their ups and downs - 2 original members left the band, but they have maintained their ferocious live performance! Plus, the current album has been hailed as a serious return to form for them.

If you haven't got your ticket for the show yet, get it now - you will NOT be disappointed.

You guys have impeccable taste in music - and I'm not just saying that.

So we decided we're going to start getting your thoughts about some of the bands heading to Wolverhampton soon - so please pass this link around, comment or tweet away about the band under the spotlight ...

So today's band is YUCK

An unfortunate name in some respects, and open to abuse by any music journalist not liking them .. but at least it's got people talking.

So here's what you need to know:

Yuck have been described as shoegaze, but at times they head into grunge territory with a definite Dinosaur Jr and Sonic Youth edge.
The band consists of Danny and Max (ex Cajun Dance Party)
The band release "Rubber" as a 12" on 26th October (you can hear the song streaming on their Myspace http://www.myspace.com/yuckband
They've already supported Modest Mouse and Teenage Fanclub so are certainly picking up friends in all the right places ..

The Wolverhampton band - who have some serious thumbs-up from XFM - have surprised many a critic by sneaking up behind them, being brilliant and earning the reputation as one of the next HUGE things.

They were pitched against other local bands to win the right to play alongside the nu-metal godfathers in a competition on Midlands radio station Kerrang!

The list of artists performing at the Wulfrun Hall on the 26th Sept reads like a who's who of 80's entertainment. They're the names that would distract me from my maths homework on a Sunday night.

If you are a child of the 80's then you could do a LOT worse than remind yourself of a more innocent time, a time before reality TV, sattelite TV and the internet. The jokes were bad, the costumes were worse - but if you were left gobsmacked at Paul Daniels magic, or in stitches at The Krankies - then go on, swallow your noughties pride and get yourself a ticket!

Whilst looking into Jason Cook (playing the Slade Rooms on 23rd Sept ) I stumbled across this review of him at the Edinburgh Fringe

"Jason Cook came to prominence as half of the humourless, spoof Teutonic techno duo Die Clatterschenken-fietermaus. But it's at the Stand that he's nurtured the searingly honest, intensely personal, emotionally engaged style of comedy that's cemented his reputation, prompting the BBC to film the development of this two-part show leading up to next year's festival. It also raises the hope that this criminally overlooked, frustrated comic's legacy might not be a criminal charge for being the guy who stabbed Jack Whitehall.

A suspected heart attack starts off his hour, deadly serious insofar as Cook has spoken movingly about his father's death, less so given that he's a malingering hypochondriac. Still, the incident does spark further worry about how his wife is out of his league, so much so that he's conceived a fantasy life for her with her ideal beau, Nathan.

Tales of Cook accidentally bottling a dolphin and his prima donnish flouncing at his sister's wedding forestall any sense of over-sentimentalism as he ponders what he'll leave when he's dead. The way he involves the audience in suggesting challenges for him, meanwhile, is a textbook display of engaging with your crowd."

What are we all making of Guns N Roses nowadays?

Axl Rose's recent displays - turning up late, abusing the crowds, have left a few of his loyal followers a little miffed to say the least.

Would YOU still pay to see Guns and Roses at a big arena?

The pity is that those classic Guns N Roses hits are still phenomenal - Sweet Child of Mine, Paradise City and of course Welcome to the Jungle (often voted the greatest GnR song of all time - poll below) and it's amazing to see them played live (even if not by Slash and co). However, is it enough? Would we tolerate hours of waiting around for Axl to sort himself out in order to see other musicians play these songs?

Personally, I'm holding out for a full-on reunion - it has to happen at some point, right?

What is has meant, is a great opening for GOOD tribute bands ... Uk GnR for example. See you down the front, don't forget your "I HEART SLASH" banner!

Glad to see Carl Barat making a name for himself, away from that loveable train-wreck Pete Doherty. (have your say on Barat below)

Ok so he's already proved he has more than enough talent to produce music without Mr Doherty (Dirty Pretty Things were a grat band) but now he's gone one step further and gone completely solo. However, not content to just release a single, and an album, he's putting a book out as well, which should be quite a colourful read.

The first single from his album is "Run with the Boys" (still waiting for a video though, come on!!!) but you can hear the song on his Myspace site - head over there to enjoy it http://mysp.ac/9YSbYL

In my opinion, it sounds like The Jam

So, 'Run With The Boys' is out October 4th 2010 - the album "Carl Barat" is out on the same day.

And then there's the book -'Threepenny Memoir'. Released just ahead of the album (30th Sept) it's a collection of stories and the rest, from his life in The Libertines and Dirty Pretty Things
